MODIS vegetation index data has been widely used for the study of vegetation, and in preprocessing steps, is important to remove spurious pixels flagged as clouds or noise. The aim of this study was to analyze the quality of the product MOD13Q1 in native forest area, considering the rainy and dry seasons between 2010 and 2014. 115 VI Quality and Pixel Reliability images of MODIS sensor were used, corresponding to the period from January 2010 to December 2014. Masks were created, in which defective pixels received value 1 and the reliable pixels received 0. The masks were added and the analysis carried for the rainy season, from October to March and the dry season, from April to September. The results showed a higher presence of spurious pixels in the rainy season coming to occupy about 45% of the total area in some images, while in the dry season this value did not exceed 10%. The persistence of spurious pixels occurred in no more than 5 of the 60 images to a same pixel in the dry season. In the rainy season in some regions, 20 of 55 images have failed in same pixel. However, most of the area showed a failure of at most 10 pixels. Overall, the MODIS images MOD13Q1 product showed high quality and is suitable for the study of vegetation in time series. Furthermore, it is essential in the preprocessing step, the removal of spurious pixels and their replacing with interpolation techniques.
